Newport-Oregon Associated Investigators: Related Time Series: Site "NH5", of the NH-Line Hydrographic and Zooplankton Time Series, is nominally located at 44.65167 N, -124.2770 W, roughly 9 kilometers off shore from Newport, Oregon, (Figure 1) at a water depth of 60 meters. Zooplankton were sampled vertically, from just above the bottom to the surface, with a 1/2 meter plankton net using a 202 µm mesh. The volume of water sampled was estimated via flowmeter placed in the mouth of the net. Zooplankton were sampled biweekly beginning in May 1996, continuing a shorter time-series of sampling done from 1969-1973 and again in 1978. All data are expressed as carbon biomass (mg Carbon per m3) after appropriate conversions. Data were developed by microscopic analysis of species and stage composition, which are converted to biomass using mostly locally derived length-weight relations (a few species are done using literature derived length-weight relations). The water mass (copepod species) groups include the following species: Subarctic Copepods: Metridia pacifica, Microcalanus pusillus, Neocalanus plumchrus and Scolecithricella minor Warm Neritic Copepods: Acartia tonsa, Corycaeus spp., Ctenocalanus vanus, and Paracalanus parvus Cold Neritic Copepods: Acartia hudsonica, Acartia longiremis, Calanus marshallae, Centropages abdominalis, Epilabidocera spp., Pseudocalanus spp., and Tortanus discaudatus Warm Oceanic Copepods: Acartia danae, Calanus pacificus, Calocalanus pavo, Calocalanus tenuis, Candacia bipinnata, Clausocalanus arevicornis, Clausocalanus furcatus, Clausocalanus jobei, Clausocalanus lividus, Clausocalanus mastigophorus, Clausocalanus parapergens, Clausocalanus paululus, Clausocalanus pergens, Eucalanus hyalinus, Euchirella rostrata, Pleuromamma borealis, Rhincalanus spp., Sapphirina spp., and Mesocalanus tenuicornis References: Peterson, W.T. and Miller, C.B. 1975.
